Today I want to talk about the fight against such a carrot pest as a carrot fly.
How to deal with a pest?
Some summer residents do not advise sowing seeds too early, since while the land is still not dry enough, leaf-flakes and carrot flies can settle on hatching sprouts.
- As soon as you have done the crops, they must be covered with lutrasil or film. It will be possible to completely remove the shelter when the sprouts have 2-3 real leaves.
- Plant carrots preferably next to onions and garlic. They emit a specific odor and essential oils that muffle the smell of the carrots themselves. This will scare away the pests.
How to use kerosene?
There is another effective method of dealing with a fly. Under shelter, you can put kerosene containers. Or carry out spraying. You can spray carrots with a solution of kerosene and water, per 1 liter of water 100 g of kerosene. It is necessary to process plants in the phase of one real leaf.
There is one more way. Take small twisting plastic jars or bottles (containers should be 7-8 cm high, and their diameter should be 4-5 cm). The covers should be slightly larger than the diameter of the neck. In order for kerosene to freely evaporate, you need to make small holes at the neck, under the lid itself.
Attention! Lids must be wider than the neck. They serve as a visor from the rain, and also cover the holes.
Tanks need to be filled 1/3 with kerosene, then tightly close and deepen in the soil to the level of the shoulders of the can.
In the closing phase, the tops of kerosene are removed.
Kerosene protection will scare away the worst carrot pests!
